Joint pain is a symptom of various physical conditions, which can range from simple fatigue to real pathologies.

Let's see together what are the possible causes and the main remedies used. Joint pain (or arthralgia) refers to a painful manifestation of one or more joints, in some cases accompanied by swelling, redness and a sensation of heat.

Sometimes it is also associated with general symptoms that involve the whole body, causing fatigue, weight loss and in some cases fever.

Articolar pains Joints are structures that bring two or more bones into mutual contact.

There are different types: furniture semi-mobile, or characterized by the possibility of making limited movements such as the articulation of the spinal column fixed, such as those of the bones of the skull and pelvis.

Articolar pains

Articolar pains Each mobile joint is in turn surrounded and supported by ligaments and the so-called joint capsule, which covers the entire joint.

Stability is also guaranteed by the tendons and muscles that are inserted into the joint. In the case of joint disease, the pain may come on suddenly (acute pain) or be persistent for a long period of time.

It can affect one or more joints and manifest as back pain, shoulder pain, ankle pain, knee, wrist, or foot pain.

Sometimes it is a minor ailment, other times a debilitating one; in any case, it is important to identify the causes of pain and treat them appropriately to reduce the risk of long-term consequences that can compromise the health and well-being of the body and the quality of life.

Causes of joint pain

Joint pain is often caused by so-called rheumatism, or rheumatic diseases. This term refers to conditions that cause pain in the joints, but also in the bones, cartilage, tendons, ligaments and muscles.

Rheumatism is often considered normal disorders typical of old age. In reality there are about 200 rheumatic diseases and they are very different from each other both for the symptoms felt and for the triggering causes. To understand the size of the problem, just think that in Italy rheumatic diseases affect one in three people after the age of 65.

Although the elderly are the category most at risk, rheumatic diseases can occur at any age especially in case of obesity, trauma or genetic predisposition.

Among the most frequent rheumatic diseases we remember arthritis, which manifests itself with inflammation of the joint, and arthrosis.

The latter is a frequent condition in the elderly characterized by a lesion of the cartilage that causes direct contact between the bones.
The pain initially appears intermittently, and then becomes constant.

 Joint pain -

causes It usually gets worse with movement and lessens with rest. The joints most affected are the knee, the hip, the back (in the lumbar area) and the fingers of the hand.

Arthritis, on the other hand, can manifest itself in different forms, such as rheumatoid arthritis, spondyloarthritis and gout. Rheumatoid arthritis is a complex disease as it affects, in addition to the joints, also the lung tissue, blood vessels and skin.

This pathology usually occurs in childbearing age, and for women who suffer from it, it is important to carefully plan a possible pregnancy.

 Joint pain - causes

Spondyloarthritis, on the other hand, is a group of diseases that primarily involve the back and subsequently also the peripheral joints (for example, the hip and shoulders). Sufferers often complain of back stiffness.

Gout is a form of arthritis that occurs as a result of a buildup of uric acid, which is deposited in the form of crystals in the joints, causing inflammation. It comes on suddenly with pain mainly at night.

It is more common in men between the ages of 40 and 50, while in women it usually occurs in menopause. When inflammation affects the structures close to the joint, the following can occur: bursitis, i.e. inflammation of the synovial bags, small fluid-filled sacs that provide protection to the joints, but also to muscles, tendons, etc. tendonitis, when one or more tendons that connect the muscle to the joint become inflamed.

Joint pain - causes Finally,

it should not be forgotten that inflammation can also be a consequence of trauma caused by injuries, for example during sports activities or following a fall.

This trauma can damage the bone or nearby structures causing sprains or dislocations. In the latter case, the trauma causes injury to the ligaments that stabilize the joint.

The movable joints are those that most easily face this problem and in particular the one at the highest risk is the shoulder joint (in this case it is referred to as shoulder dislocation).

Visits and exams Joint pain -

If the pain does not go away and the mobility of the joint tends to decrease, it is important to ask your doctor for advice, who in some cases will personally assess the situation and provide information on therapy; in others, he will instead recommend specialist advice from an orthopedist or rheumatologist.

The remedies for joint pain In case of joint pain,

The most suitable treatment for the individual case can only be identified once the causes of the disorder have been recognized.
In general, several drugs are indicated for adequate joint pain control, including pain relievers and NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) which can be taken by mouth or applied topically in the form of patches, creams, etc., and which are useful in case of rheumatic and traumatic pain and inflammation of the joints, but also of the muscles, tendons and ligaments.

Joint pain - remedies

In the event of trauma, it is also useful, at first, to apply ice to the painful part. Once the acute phase has been overcome, the doctor will be able to evaluate the need for a specific rehabilitation program that includes physical therapies or targeted exercises
Finally, patients with rheumatoid arthritis are advised to resort to vaccination against the flu undergo an improvement in the progress of the disease and a reduction in the number of medical visits.

How to prevent joint pain

Lifestyle is the first element on which to intervene for an effective prevention of joint pain. In particular, it is recommended to:

keep your weight under control
engage in regular physical activity.
Physical exercise, in fact, is recommended not only because it helps maintain muscle tone, but also because it promotes joint mobility.

In particular, all water activities are recommended because they reduce the pressure on the joint.

Joint pain - prevention

According to recent studies, finally, it seems very important to assume a correct posture in everyday life. Correcting posture, getting used to maintaining an aligned spine position, for example if you spend many hours sitting at a desk, seems to be a very useful factor in reducing the risk of joint diseases.
